June 20, 2016 - A two mile hike up a rough gorge rewards the intrepid visitors with a beautiful series of plunge pools, swimmin' holes, and an 80 foot waterfall. This is a celebration of the summer solstice at North Carolina's South Mountains State Park.
The park is open every day except Christmas Day. The best time to visit is about mid-October, at the peak of the fall season, and visiting on a week day ensures a bit of privacy and quiet.. It's a mile from the parking lot. There is no concession stand in the departure area, so make sure you pack in your water and snacks.
